This feature ran in Spare Rib in 1979 in response to a series of advertisements commissioned by the Aycliffe Development Corporation which appeared in The Daily Telegraph. Feminists were outraged at the way in which women's bodies were sexualised and dehumanised in the ads. Feminist analysis of popular culture and advertising has long been important to the feminist movement.
