Playing Cards – “Alternative Happy Family”

A selection of playing cards depicting the “alternative happy family”, date unknown.

These playing cards, intended for use with children, were created by feminists in response to traditional images of the heterosexual family unit depicted in the original game ‘Happy Families’. In this subversive edition, characters such as Guy, the Gay Bookshop Owner, and Primrose, the Peace Campaigner, appear as part of alternative familial relationships.
